Where's the best place to learn more?Get involved on our Discord. There's plenty of information pinned there and on the internet in general. This is a great video for beginners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlClrUGHUig

I haven't played before, can I come to the social?Absolutely! We'll help you get started and show you the ropes. Dominic, the organiser, will be stationed near the 'try Melee' setup where you can play other newcomers and ask any questions. We're a friendly bunch.
-
Is the social a safe space?Yes. We are an inclusive community for people of all walks of life, gender, sexuality, race, and brain chemistry.
-
I'm interested in coming to the social, do I need to do or bring anything?Nope! We'll provide controllers and it's totally free. Just pop along on the day and say hi.
-
Will people be there and at what time?We average about 20 attendees so you can bet there will be people there. Most people turn up around 6:30pm ready to play in the 7pm tournament and stay until 10pm (although our official times are 6pm-11pm).
-
Who can I look to for help?Look for Dom or Jack, the organisers. A photo of them can be found here.
-
Are you really serious about the game? The truth is some people are and some people aren't. Regardless, everybody is welcoming and friendly to new players.
-
Can I just play against the computer?Sure! Playing the single-player mode gives you a good chance of learning all the controls.
-
I'm not very good at the game, is it worth coming to the social?Of course! The tournament experience is formulated to give lower level players more games with each other so everybody has a chance of having competitive games. Melee is fun at any level.
-
Do I have to enter the tournament at the social? No. You can just play casually and meet people. It's entirely up to you.
-
What is the noise and light like? The Crowd of Favours cellar is dimly lit with fairy lights and all the music in the game is turned off to make noise levels lower. We try to curate a relaxed atmosphere.
-
I want to play in the social tournament, what should I do?As long as you are at the venue by 6:45pm we can put you in the tournament.
-
What is the average age of attendees?Around 25 years old.
-
What ages are allowed at the social?18+, 16+ with guardian consent form, any ages below with guardian present and in agreement with late night venue rules.
-
Why do you play on those old square heavy TVs? I think my Nan still has one of thoseIt just feels better. And it's kind of cool, right?
-
How do I start playing at home?melee.tv has the full guide on how to get set up. A computer, official GameCube controller and controller adapter is recommended so you can play people online using Slippi. Read more at the site. If you happen to have a GameCube/Wii, copy of Melee, controller and an old enough TV in your attic you could play against bots but really you're best off getting set up on a computer.
